Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use points to fly to Mallorca?
Yes. PMI (Palma airport) is served from many US gateways via connections in Madrid, London, or Frankfurt. Iberia and British Airways redemptions work well for this route.
What is the best area to stay in Mallorca?
Deia or the northwest for landscape and privacy. Palma for food, culture, and convenience. Most people do a split between the two.
Is Mallorca better than Ibiza for a relaxed trip?
Significantly. Mallorca is larger, quieter, and more varied. Ibiza is built around nightlife. Mallorca is built around landscape, food, and coastline.
Do I need a car in Mallorca?
Yes, especially in the northwest. The coast road and the villages are not well served by public transport. Rent a small car for any day outside Palma

Don't Miss!
Hire a small boat for a half day out of Port de Soller and work your way along the northwest calas. Most of the best coves have no road access. Pack a cooler, bring something to read, anchor when something looks right. This is the version of Mallorca that most visitors never find because it requires a little planning and a boat.

What to See and Do
Deia: a cliffside village above the sea where artists have lived for a century. Walk it before 9am or after 6pm to have the lanes mostly to yourself.
The Ma-10 coast road: the drive along the northwest coast from Andratx to Pollenca is one of Europe's best. Limestone peaks on one side, the sea 400 metres below on the other.
Palma Cathedral (La Seu): Gaudi contributed to the interior. The light through the rose window at 10am is worth planning a morning around.

Beyond the Resorts
Most people fly into Palma, head to a beach hotel, and leave having seen about ten percent of the island. The northwest, the Serra de Tramuntana, the old town of Deia perched above the sea, the ancient fishing coves accessible only by boat: this is the Mallorca that justifies the flight. It is quieter than Ibiza, more varied than the Algarve, and still genuinely beautiful in the way that Mediterranean islands used to be before the infrastructure caught up.

When to go
Best time to visit
Peak Season
July and August. Peak crowds and peak prices. The roads in the northwest are slow and the beaches are full.
Sweet Spot
May, June, or September. The water is warm, the light is long, and the island is at about half the density. October is underrated for a villa-based trip focused on food, driving, and walking. Cooler but very livable.
